Hi, I am Annie Dahm
LMFT-Associate providing therapy for women, couples, and families in Austin, TX.
I'm Annie Dahm, an LMFT-Associate in Austin, TX. I work with women, couples, and families navigating pregnancy, postpartum, parenthood, relationships, and the many transitions that can shape our lives.
I’m here because I care deeply about women’s mental health and believe in advocating for the support women deserve. That belief has been shaped by both my professional experience and my own journey.
My Background
My first career was in education. I worked with hundreds of children and families from various walks of life in schools ranging from Title 1 charter schools to tech-centered private schools. I started out working with young children because I believed that if we could support kids early, we could ultimately help create a healthier society. But the more I worked with kids, the more I saw how much their well-being was connected to what was happening at home, and my focus shifted. I naturally began gravitating toward helping women and families navigate behavioral challenges and create healthier relationships at home.
Then the babies came.
My own experiences changed the direction of my career in a very personal way. I experienced infertility because of endometriosis, postpartum depression and anxiety, and the physical and emotional challenges that came with becoming a mom. I experienced firsthand how overwhelming this major life transition can be, and how much harder it can feel when you don’t have the information, support, or resources you need.
That’s when I decided to become a therapist and focus my work on women’s mental health.
My Perspective
I chose the LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) path because it reflects something I strongly believe: we don’t heal in a silo. LMFTs are trained to look at the individual within the context of their relationships and family system. While I believe women have deep work to do as they learn about and embrace the woman they are becoming through the transition into motherhood, I also believe this work can go deeper when women understand themselves within the context of their partnerships and families, and when their partners and loved ones understand what they’re experiencing and how to support them. You can learn more about LMFTs and My Approach HERE.
That is especially true when it comes to becoming parents.
My hope is to help women feel seen, supported, and understood during some of the biggest transitions of their lives and to help their partners and families understand how they can be part of that support, too.
Because when we support the woman, we support the family. And when we support the family, we create a stronger foundation for everyone.
